Proposed research scheme concentrates on the questions regarding the paradigm known in the social sciences as «construction of the social reality» when it is applied to the medieval Kingdom of Croatia. The researchers want to explore the results of the European historiography in the field and try to obtain information how the categories of «time and space» were defined in the absence of clockwork, calendar and precise maps. Besides that the research will concentrate on the problem of organization of local communities and the issue of communication between them and state apparatus and, closely connected with that, development of literate mentality in order to ascertain the forms of “social knowledge” and ways it was disseminated and reproduced across time. The research will also take into account how narratives of medieval history constructed in historiography were used in the process of “imagining” of the modern Croatian nation.
